Call for Community Event

The academic path is full of technical and personal challenges. It is exciting but it can also be overwhelming. We need to come up with novel research ideas, learn how to deal with paper or proposal rejections, and build networks that can help our communities and personal careers.

The EWSN Communtiy Event is about connecting young PhD students and postdocs with experienced senior researchers to discuss technical and non-technical topics to pave (or hinder) the way towards a successful career in academia or industry.

This year’s Community Event will consist of plenary talks and, most importantly, interactive discussions, that go beyond a specific technical topic.

Applications for participation to the Community Event are independent of other calls at EWSN 2026. All (prospective) authors of an EWSN'26 contribution (full paper, workshop paper, or poster/demo/competition abstract) are welcome to also apply for participation at the Community Event.

How to participate? There are two options. First, active participation. We expect that you will engage in discussions. Before the conference starts, we will collect (anonymously) open topics and challenges, which we will discuss on site. Second, active presentation. If you have a technical or non-technical topic that you want to share with the EWSN community and publish this as an Extended Abstract in the EWSN proceedings, you can submit such an abstract. Those abstracts may include broader research topics and visions, lessons learned and reflections from doing a PhD or postdoc, ideas how conferences on EWSN-related topics should change, etc. We will allocate time during the Community Event that will allow you to present this topic.

Extended abstracts are limited to two pages (excl. references) and should follow the EWSN’26 format, see the Call for Posters and Demos. The abstracts title must be prepended with "Perspective: ". Those abstracts need to be submitted until August 15, 2026.

How to attend? In addition to registering for EWSN 2026, you have to register here (TBA). You will be able to chose one of the two participation types (see above). For active participation, the deadline is August 31, 2026; for active presentation, August 15, 2026.
